EduRecon — A U.S. Network for Interdisciplinary Coastal Reconnaissance Education

Connecting U.S. universities to give students hands-on experience in coastal observation and extreme-event reconnaissance.

EduRecon is a multi-university network that puts students and reconnaissance education at its center. It connects classroom learning with real-world coastal challenges, helping students and early-career researchers develop the skills, experience, and confidence needed for interdisciplinary coastal reconnaissance.

Through shared field training, mentorship, and collaborative research, participants learn to plan surveys, collect and interpret data, and translate observations into knowledge that supports coastal resilience.

With UCF CoastKnights serving as its initial coordination hub, EduRecon connects these educational opportunities with year-round coastal observation, extreme-event reconnaissance, modeling, experimental facilities, and data-to-decision workflows.

Its goal is to prepare the next generation of coastal reconnaissance professionals while expanding student access to existing NHERI programs, facilities, and data resources.
