The network combines continuous coastal observation, preparedness, post-storm reconnaissance, and hands-on training within one shared framework.

Important coastal evidence can disappear within hours or days after a storm. At the same time, effective reconnaissance requires trained people, trusted partnerships, and preparation before an event occurs.
Many coastal universities already have students, researchers, field equipment, and local knowledge. EduRecon connects these existing strengths and helps transform them into a coordinated reconnaissance capability.

EduRecon teams observe selected coastal sites before storms, prepare through shared training activities, and document impacts and recovery after extreme events.
Post-event activities take place only when conditions are safe and in coordination with the agencies responsible for disaster response. EduRecon supports scientific data collection and complements official response operations.
